BRUSSELS - A European Parliament committee on Wednesday backed giving Britons the right to travel to the European Union without visas after Brexit, following weeks of controversy over the way the draft legislation dubs Gibraltar a UK “colony”.
EU member states were then unable to agree on a joint position with the European Parliament for weeks as the lawmakers’ point man for the file, Briton Claude Moraes, blocked it over the use of the term “colony”, while other capitals took the side of Madrid. “The 12th of April is coming and the faith of millions of UK citizens and EU citizens and their right to travel is in our hands,” he said when asking the committee to back the proposal.

Barnier says chaotic Brexit becomes ever more likelyBRUSSELS (AP) — EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier says that Britain's exit from the European Union without a deal 'becomes day after day more likely' after the U.K. parliament again rejected alternatives to the government's unpopular divorce deal. Despite the downbeat assessment, Barnier did say that 'we can still hope to avoid it' through intensive work in London ahead of an April 10 summit. A no-deal Brexit could come as soon two days after that. Despite the difficulties of a chaotic exit, 'the EU will be able to manage,' Barnier said, although he warned that 'not everything will be smooth.'
