Berner Kühl's CPHFW debut, was simple and timeless. Even in the rush of a runway show, it was easy to see the quality and craftsmanship:
Fashion week debutant Frederik Berner Kühl presented his SS22 collection with grace and ease.
With the purpose of educating the next generation of consumers on a good product, Kühl showed a simple and timeless menswear collection, where even in the rush of a runway show, it was easy to see how the quality and craftsmanship in each piece. Berner Kühl’s CPHFW debut lived up to his design thinking: without the clutter, without all the noise. The colour scheme had little to no variation between black, white and a hint of army green - to some this might sound boring, but after reading how Frederik wants to show what fashion can be without technological inventions, it all made sense.
But don’t think Berner Kühl is one to cut corners and hide behind sustainability. Combining the use of transparent fabrics and a transparent show set, there was a clear red thread of transparency and the human silhouette throughout the collection. I found this extra detail to be super important as a designer to remember, because Kühl does not vow just to be ‘sustainable’, he understands the principles of designing long lasting clothing.
Using adjectives such as ‘utilitarian’ and ‘serene’ to describe his collection, the industrial hangar was the perfect setting to let his collection do the talking. The simplicity of the collection and the venue was enough for Berner Kühl to make a fantastic CPHFW debut. I want to congratulate Frederik on his debut which moved something in me, seeing that new fashion can rely on basic, timeless design principles.
