What an incredible achievement
A Nottingham mum who started running after her mum fell ill is about to take on her 100th marathon. Sharon Messam, originally from West Bridgford, but has now moved to Bingham, will complete the milestone achievement at Telford Marathon on September 23 this year, and believes she could be the first woman from Nottingham to join the UK100 Marathon Club.
"But she had a stroke and she was paralysed, and it was a shock. She couldn't do anything. And I got really depressed. The mum then started taking part in local park runs and it took her months before she could run the full five kilometres without stopping. But Sharon said finding herself at the startline of her first marathon in Budapest in Hungary in September 2019, just 18 months after starting running, was a "fluke."
"He has sadly passed away now, he died of Lymphoma. So he won't get to see me do my 100th, so I would just like to mark his memory with the run."
