Wondering where your tax refund is? Here's why the IRS says getting your money make take more than 21 days.
The IRS said many different factors can affect the timing of a refund after the agency receives a return, including it needing a manual review due to errors, is incomplete or is affected by identity theft or fraud.
Claiming certain credits including Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit, as well as corrections to the Child Tax Credit or Recovery Rebate Credit, can push refunds back as long as 14 weeks, the IRS said. The fastest way to get your refund remains the same, however. File electronically and choose direct deposit for the your refund. The agency warns that taxpayers shouldn’t rely on receiving their money by a certain date as returns may take additional review and can take longer.
