The first impression of the Jim Knowles era suggests OSU may be ready to get back to being an elite, attacking defense. But let Knowles tell it, we’ve only seen the beginning stages of what’s to come over the next 11 weeks.

The Buckeyes gave up just 10 points to Notre Dame, none of which came in the second half. They also only gave just 72 yards — 253 overall — in the second half. Those 10 points were also the least amount the program’s given up against a top-five opponent since a 38-7 win over a fourth-ranked Penn State team in 1996.

The first impression of the Knowles era suggests OSU may be ready to get back to being an elite, attacking defense. But to let Knowles tell it, we’ve only seen the beginning stages of what’s to come over the next 11 weeks. He’s already moved on to what’s next. “We go through the process,” Knowles said. “I know that’s a thing that coaches say, but go through the process. You celebrate the win, at least the players do. I don’t think I will really, then move on to the next. That’s our job as coaches. Give them time to celebrate it, then when they come back we break it down in detail and it’s the process.”
