As the hot temperature rises across the UK, so do the number of reported flying ant sightings as the pesky insects begin to plague homes. Many people have taken to social media to declare it as 'Flying Ant Day' - something that happens every year once the weather becomes warmer.
The swarms of millions of flying ants can last for several weeks, typically with in that time there is one day where it's particularly noticeable, with many calling it on social med "the worst day of the year."Essentially, it's mating season for the critters, and humidity plays a key role in the life cycle of ants, particularly during the nuptial flight.
While the insects might be very annoying if you're trying to soak up the sun rays or hang out a wash, as they're known for biting people. According to Royal Society of Biology, you should leave the insects alone should you come across them, as they will usually fly off within a few hours.
