The Dallas Cowboys wanted to be better prepared for the NFL’s second pandemic season than they were for the first. They brought in a pair of virtual learning experts from a nearby college to help.
After the 2020 NFL season ended, Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy introduced his staff to a pair of experts he hoped would make them better at coaching football. Coordinators sat in the front row and took detailed notes. They peppered their lecturers with questions. They learned so much that it would transform the way they do their jobs.
Ruthanne “Rudi” Thompson and Adam Fein had absolutely no background in football. But their roles at the University of North Texas happened to make them vital resources for an NFL team conducting business in the middle of a pandemic. They’re experts in virtual learning and responsible for thousands of courses that tens of thousands of students have taken online since the Covid-19 pandemic began in 2020.
