A large wave of evictions failed to materialize after the federal moratorium lifted, but filings are increasing.

“A lot of advocates were worried that we’d wake up one morning and there’d be a 500% increase in the number of evictions filed,” Child Poverty Action Lab senior director Ashley Flores said. “That hasn’t been the case.”The U.S. Supreme Court ended“So far in December, we’ve seen, relative to pre-COVID levels for December, a pretty significant number of evictions filed,” Flores said.
For the same three-month period in 2019, Dallas County landlords filed more than 13,000 eviction suits. The median amount of rent owed then was $933.
