Customers grieved the upcoming closure with many admitting they are 'gutted'
The restaurant opened on the Albert Dock in 2013 serving classic items such as burgers, fish and their famous hanging kebabs. Smugglers Cove holds the Guinness World Record for the most varieties of Rum commercially available with 151 rums on the menu, an accomplishment achieved back in 2015.
News of the takeover created a wave of upset customer comments, many of whom were regular visitors to Smugglers Cove and will miss its aesthetic. In a similar message, Emma Hawes added: "Love the Smugglers! Gutted to see it close." Danielle Hamm also said: "What a sad day!" This will be Liverpool's second Botanist venue after The New World Trading Company rebranded Liverpool ONE's former Club House restaurant last month.
