The frenetic pace of the 2021 hurricane season continues with the formation of Tropical Storm Peter and a new tropical depression that's likely to become the next named storm:

No impacts to the mainland U.S. are expected from these systems.

Tropical Storm Peter and Tropical Depression Seventeen are tracking through the Atlantic, continuing the frenetic pace of the 2021 hurricane season.Peter is forecast to turn northwest and then northward into the central Atlantic. That track should take the storm north of the Lesser Antilles in the week ahead.Parts of the northern Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands could see some peripheral impacts from Peter.

The National Hurricane Center is also watching another tropical disturbance emerging from the African coastline. This system could form into a tropical depression or storm later in the week ahead.
