The most reliable appliance brands in America, according to ConsumerReports 5. Thermador 4. LG 3. Ikea 2. Miele And here's No. 1:
Buying a new appliance is an investment, but consumers shouldn’t choose a refrigerator or washing machine based on the price tag alone.
To rank the brands, Consumer Reports asked members how often the appliance broke or stopped working adequately. It looked at eight different types of appliances: refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, cooking tops, wall ovens, over-the-range microwaves, washers and dryers.Consumers rated reliability as more important than price or performance in determining which appliance they purchased, said Eric Hagerman, home editor at Consumer Reports.
Meanwhile, brands that ranked in the bottom half of the pack included KitchenAid WHR, +0.30% Samsung SSNLF, +0.00% and Electrolux ELUXF, +15.02% A spokeswoman for GE Appliances said the company had not yet seen the results of the study and could not yet offer comment. MarketWatch contacted the other companies for comment, but has not yet received any response.
