A 1920 home with a rounded front balcony bordered by massive Corinthian columns has hit the market for $925,000.
The regal three-story Tobin Hill property was built by Richard Tarpley Pruitt, one of the city's key produce suppliers and a top real estate investor. Pruitt had a hand in the Arthur Hotel, the San Antonio Buick Co. and a cluster of produce and cold storage plants near downtown, according historical records. He was also active in various civic groups.
Pruitt's family home features plenty of exterior grandeur and great views from its deep-set verandas, but its beauty doesn't end there. The interior is full of Gilded Age-touches including elaborate archways, 10-foot ceilings and a breathtaking stairway showcasing intricate woodwork. The 2,700-square-foot property is in need of a major renovation since the bottom floor is without air conditioning, its pool needs repairs and a guest house also needs major attention, listing agent Debra Maltz said. However, she noted that the structure is packed with old-fashioned charm.
"It would be fabulous with some serious restoration, because so much of the original stuff is still there," she said.
