A man accused of opening fire in a crowded Southern California shopping center last month, injuring one person, was charged Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office. Jose Manuel Salazar, 18, was charged with one count each of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with violation of probation.that took place June 3 at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, south of Los Angeles. The police response was massive. The mall has more than 250 stores.
The shooting was "committed in association with a criminal street gang," according to the district attorney's office. Bail was set at more than $2 million, according to court records. If convicted as charged, Salazar faces a possible maximum sentence of 47 years to life in state prison.
