A beautiful tribute

The son of a beloved GP has spoken out about his father's death, with members of the community paying tribute to him.

Dr Morris then worked at other hospitals, including Salford Royal and Rochdale Infirmary, before his first son Alan Morris, was born in 1986. At this time, the doctor started working as a GP after moving to Whitworth in Rossendale, where he worked at the local medical centre for over a decade. After his stint here, Dr Morris then began working as a GP in Bacup for eight years and a further four years were spent in St. James's in Rawtenstall.

According to his son, Dr Morris was left "heartbroken" when he was forced to take an early retirement from his job as a doctor, due to his cancer diagnosis in 2020. Alan continued: "He loved his job. He was the only person I knew that was excited to go to work. He was heartbroken when he couldn't do it anymore."

Due to his father's popularity, Alan wanted to ensure that the service was "opened up for as many people as possible", after receiving thousands of comments from well-wishers who sent over their condolences to the family. One well-wisher wrote: "He was a lovely Doctor and a lovely man, he was our GP at Whitworth medical centre many years ago, but never forgotten."
