The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team came into Friday’s NCAA Div.

The Cougars’ opponent at Cal State San Bernardino was Alaska Fairbanks, which had a record of 12-14.Shabazz scored 35 points, half of his team’s production, and Alaska Fairbanks upset Cal State San Marcos 70-63.With the score tied at 61 with 2:07 left in the game, Shabazz scored seven straight points.

After a layup by Lyle Sutton to knot it at 61, the Cougars missed four straight shots and committed a turnover before scoring a meaningless basket at buzzer.The Cougars shot 40 percent from the field , including just 4 of 20 from 3-point range. They were also outrebounded 42-23. Jayve McCain led the Cougars with 16 points. He was followed by Sutton with 14 points and Greg Milton III and Blake Seits with 12 points each.

The Cal State San Marcos women dropped their regional quarterfinal as well, falling to Azusa Pacific 89-86 in overtime. Also Friday, despite 32 points from Kaden Anderson, the Point Loma Nazarene men lost 66-64 to Azusa Pacific .
