Faced with an aging group of docents, Philadelphia's Penn Museum hit on an idea: Hire immigrants and refugees hailing from the same regions as its artifacts. About a third of visitors now specifically come to take a tour with a Global Guide.

The Global Guides also come from Mexico, Guatemala and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Clay Katongo arrived in North America 13 years ago after fleeing the DRC. He's a new Global Guide, whose tours concentrate on the spectacular Africa collection, replete with religious artifacts preceding the spread of Christianity and Islam.Clay Katongo, left, was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is a guide for the Penn Museum's Africa Galleries.
