Recently the city launched a seven-part Community Speaker Series, open to the public, to enhance planning and change. “They’re all different markets with so many great ideas,” he said. “Ideas around food access, small business development and fundraising.” “I appreciated the panel’s comments about how to support entrepreneurs that are immigrants and newcomers,” she said. “Like some other markets throughout the country, the West Side Market has a past history of waves of immigrants, initially from Eastern and Western Europe, starting food businesses. I think we need to make an effort to support entrepreneurship of more diverse populations, including adding Latino and Asian and Black vendors.
