Cumbria Police sacked the officer after he was caught lying to his supervisor
A life-saving police officer has been sacked after entering false information onto a police intelligence system and lying to his bosses.
Both of these incidents were admitted by the then Cumbria Police officer when misconduct proceedings were brought against him. However, he disputed that the actions meant he should be sacked by the force.Just one month earlier, Mr Hudson was commended by the Chief Constable for his role in helping to save the life of a man who had tried to kill himself. Alongside two other officers, he arrived at a scene in Barrow to find the man hanging from a tree.
When giving the award, Inspector Jim Bailey said: "As police constables, the officers are expected to respond to all manner of difficult circumstances. However, finding yourself in a situation where you need to take swift action to save someone's life is extremely challenging and yet all three officers were able to demonstrate remarkable composure and professionalism throughout the incident.
However, Mr Hudson’s actions veered from life-saving to sackable when he entered the false information in June. A misconduct hearing took place earlier this month and led to Chief Constable Robert Carden concluding that immediate dismissal was deserved.
