Horizons gives adult fans something to relate to.
The new series Pokémon Horizons has been off to a fantastic start as it is, but the two most recent episodes are delving into the backstory of its grown-up characters, offering adult fans of the series a way to relate that was largely absent in the previous anime with Ash.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Episodes #18 and #19 of Pokémon Horizons even focused on these characters heavily, with #18 being a full-episode flashback of Friede's meeting with Captain Pikachu, showing a younger version of Friede who's fallen victim to the ennui of everyday life, something kids can't really relate to as well as adults.
Adult Viewers Can Finally Relate To Characters In A Pokémon Anime One of the major differences between the old anime and Horizons is the presence of its extended cast. Instead of Liko and Roy traveling alone the way Ash and his comrades did, they've been given a vehicle along with a crew of competent adult figures who can guide them through rough situations.
As an adult, watching Pokémon is a bit of a different experience than watching it as a child. While a child sees Ash's journey through the wonder of adventure, it's hard not to question as an adult why Ash is allowed to put himself in such dangerous situations. He's only supposed to be 10 years old, after all, and a lot of 10-year-olds in real life aren't even trusted with being left at home alone, much less sent on a journey around the world.
Pokémon Horizons Finally Recognizes The Adult Fans Of The Franchise Pokémon Horizons seems to finally have acknowledged Pokémon's fairly large periphery demographic of adult fans, and the writers have found the perfect way to include elements that can satisfy both groups of fans.
