A Plano water tower in Plano, Texas, on Thursday, June 18, 2020. The Plano City Council voted Monday to establish a no parking zone near a popular neighborhood park., the area includes the north side of Emerson Drive from Preston Meadow Drive to a point 145 feet west of Virginia Drive.
The change was made in part due to access concerns for the Plano Fire-Rescue Department as well as current street width requirements. Fire-Rescue Chief Chris Biggerstaff said the department gets many calls during the year from callers stating that there is a potential block on the street and emergency crews might not be able to get through.
During a test run, it was determined that a typical fire engine would not be able to maneuver through Emerson Drive when there are no gaps between parked vehicles, which often happens during peak usage. The measure would be temporary to allow easier fire department access until the city can design and complete for a capital project that would address the problem.Construction on the capital project could begin sometime in the summer or fall of 2023..
