Left knee takes brunt of collision with wall but Juan Soto remains in game; Michael Wacha throwing, improving each day as he eyes Friday return to Padres rotation

“I’ve played catch a couple times now, and each day it’s definitely getting better,” Wacha said Sunday morning. “That’s a positive there. Excited about that. “It’s just one of those things where it can get kind of pissed off and irritated,” he said, “and sometimes you have to take a breather and get it right.”was optioned back to Triple-A El Paso to make room for the addition ofThe 26-year-old knuckleballer was not expecting a long stay in the majors as a one-off fill-in during Wacha’s absence.

Waldron yielded two home runs on Saturday on 92 mph fastballs. He threw only two knuckleballs over the first three innings before throwing 11 over his final 1 2/3 frames, none of them squared up as he mixed it in more against left-handed hitters
