Some A’s fans are choosing to see their team on the road, rather than at home, as the payroll is cut and ticket prices go up.

After spending two nights at Oracle Park, the A’s return Friday to the Oakland Coliseum. It is also known as what’s been affectionately referred to as the “Last Dive Bar” by a segment of the fan base and was called a “dump” by Billy Beane in the movie “Moneyball” in 2011. “I think it’s important to remember ever since the A’s came to Oakland from Kansas City, there have been challenges with attendance at the Coliseum,” Kaval said.
While it’s true attendance is down overall in MLB after a 99-day lockout and two years impacted by COVID, it’s been particularly acute in Oakland. Fans also felt sticker shock after the A’s slashed their payroll from $90.4 million to $52.4 million, according to Spotrac, while raising the price of admission.
