SF Giants’ outfielder leaves game vs. A’s after three innings

SAN FRANCISCO – Giants’ right fielder Joc Pederson left Wednesday’s game with the A’s at Oracle Park after three innings with what was described as right groin tightness.

Pederson had singled in the bottom of the third inning as the Giants loaded the bases with one out. But Brandon Belt, the next batter, hit into a 3-6-1 double play, as Pederson was forced out at second before Belt was unable to beat Elvis Andrus’ throw to first. Pederson was then taken out of the game for the top of the fourth inning and was replaced by Austin Slater, who took over centerfield. Luis Gonzalez moved from center field to right.

Pederson had been playing his best baseball of the season in recent days, as his six home runs to date were tied for second-most in MLB. His six homers with the Giants were tied with Jarrett Parker and Willie McCovey for the most in team history through their first 14 career games with the Giants. In his last three games before Wednesday, Peterson was 4-for-8 with a double, three home runs, and five RBI.Opener Sam Long gave up a solo home run to A’s outfielder Chad Pinder on just the sixth pitch of the game, as a changeup hung up just enough for Pinder to deposit in the left-field seats. It was the first home run and just the sixth hit that Long has allowed in 6⅔ innings this season.
