Here’s the thing about Ole Miss and McNeese State… they’re being used, writes DanaONeilWriter. Chris Beard and Will Wade are just using them on their way back.
The reality is, these schools might think they’re being magnanimous, extending a rope to save a man from drowning. We will hear a lot about due diligence and, God help us, second chances over the next few days. We will be assured that the administrations have been assured of each man’s character, did significant “vetting” and that they trust the future of their programs in their hands.
The truth is, they’re being used. There is no long-term future in either of these partnerships, not a real foundational one at least. McNeese and Ole Miss are the cleansing bath, the place that Wade and Beard go to wash away their sins. They are whatwas to Hugh Freeze and Western Kentucky to Bobby Petrino. No one is looking to buy in Lake Charles, Louisiana, or Oxford, Mississippi; renting will do just fine until the better neighborhoods open up again.
In all likelihood, the administrations know this. They aren’t fools, and in fact probably are sitting back right now, thinking they’re pretty smart.
