What a wonderful gesture
Staff at a Nottingham bar couldn't believe their luck when a customer left them a £1,000 tip. The customer, whose identify hasn't been revealed, made the generous gesture at Raglan Road Irish Bar in Derby Road.
Alana John-Lewis, 21, said: "As a student I was over the moon with that. He came in to watch the football and just left a really, really generous tip. With Christmas coming up it's amazing. It made our day. He can pop in any time of day."When he said he'd like to leave a £1,000 tip all of our faces just dropped because we normally get one or two pounds, not £1,000." The four female students on shift split the unexpected windfall four ways.
Alana, who has worked at the bar for just under a year, wasn't due to be working that night but had swapped her shift to cover for a barman who wanted to watch the match. "One of the boys who works at the Raglan asked me to cover that night. I said 'absolutely, I don't mind working the England game' and he was there so he heard the guy say a £1,000 tip and I think his mouth dropped, too. I bet he wish he'd worked now.
