"Our crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore your service, though relights may take several days to complete," CenterPoint Energy tweeted Tuesday afternoon. The outage is a result of damage to another company’s pipeline that serves the two towns, CenterPoint Energy said in a release. CenterPoint did not name the other company.
"As part of our safety procedures, our technicians are onsite, and will turn off each affected customer’s natural gas meter; the shut-off process may take several hours and, in most cases, can be done at the customer’s outside gas meter," the release explained. Tal Centers, vice president, Texas Gas at CenterPoint Energy, said more than 200 employees and contractors are working to restore service and for now, customers do not need to take any action unless the smell of natural gas is detected.
