William Wragg, chairman of the Commons public administration and constitutional affairs committee, asked Mr Case on Wednesday if he was aware of “rather forceful communications” from Ms Dorries “threatening to use the platform of the Commons and indeed her own television programme to get to the bottom of why she hasn’t been given a peerage”.
The Cabinet Secretary replied: “Yes I was aware of those communications and have flagged them to both the Chief Whip and the Speaker of the House.” Asked whether he had sought legal advice on if she might have breached the Honours Act 1925, Mr Case said he was “seeking further advice on that question – taken initial advice but asked for more”.that apart from submitting a number of Freedom of Information Act requests, the only civil servant she had contacted was Mr Case himself.
The former Culture Secretary has announced she is publishing a book in September on “the political assassination of Boris Johnson”, which she says will reveal a plot to bring down the ex-Prime Minister.
