Nicholas Diner in Paterson was a favorite spot for many in the community, locals said. The owners are retiring.
After 44 years, Paterson’s oldest and last surviving diner shuttered its doors on Wednesday.
Sayegh said that while New Jersey is considered “the diner capital,” Nicholas Diner will always hold a special place in his heart. The couple – who emigrated to the United States from Greece with nothing – worked hard to build the business, with their three daughters signing on when they were children to help.
“Every kid should work in a diner,” Angela said, noting she met her husband there and they now have two beautiful children who are excelling in life.
