🚗 Drivers should not be expected to give up using diesel, petrol, or hybrid cars MPs say

Investors are being deterred from investing in new green transport solutions for fear of backing a “technology that may not be the eventual ‘winner’, the parliamentary transport committee said. Transport ministers need to abandon a “technology-neutral” stance and instead pick “winners” if the UK is to slash carbon emissions and meet its climate targets, MPs warned.

The Government should change its policy to one of ‘targeted technology investment’, giving it flexibility to invest in solutions “that offer evidenced solutions to lowering emissions, and giving the private sector more confidence to invest”. Greater investment in sustainable fuels could mitigate the risks of electronic vehicle battery production or grid capacity being insufficient and would cater for conventional vehicles that will remain on the road past the point at which sales of new conventional-engine cars will be banned.
