Met Office verdict on Manchester's top temperature this week as heatwave set to continue
The hot weather is expected to continue in Greater Manchester for the rest of the week as the heatwave has been officially declared. Temperatures are forecast to remain in the mid 20s in Manchester over the coming days, with a high of 26C predicted.
Although it should stay dry and sunny over the next couple of days, there could be more thundery showers at the end of the week, similar to those experienced on Sunday and Monday. A spokesperson for the Met Office told the Manchester Evening News: “The top temperature in Manchester will be fairly stable this week with 26C expected tomorrow, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“Conditions will remain dry and bright through Wednesday and Thursday before the risk of showers, potentially thundery, redevelop on Friday and into the weekend.” It comes as a swathe of the UK stretching from the North West to the South East of England has exceeded the threshold for a heatwave.According to the Met Office, a heatwave is defined as three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold. The threshold varies in each county.
The temperature has soared in recent days, hitting 32.2C in Chertsey, Surrey, on Saturday June 10, the highest recorded so far this year. Bridgefoot in Cumbria has so far seen Tuesday’s highest temperature, at 30.1C. The UK Health Security Agency has also extended a heat health alert for the whole of England for a further six days. It had previously been due to end today.
