Storm Babet is expected to pose a danger to life with strong winds and heavy rain
The Met Office has issued an update on Storm Babet and warned "severe flooding and disruption" could pose a danger to life in some parts of the UK. Forecasters have warned that torrential rainfall, which could exceed 250mm in just a few days, may pose a "danger to life" as it could result in deep, fast-flowing flood water and "extensive" damage to homes and buildings in some parts of Scotland, the Daily Record reports.
A yellow 'be aware' warning was issued for Nottinghamshire from 6am Thursday, October 19 until Saturday, October 21. But the Met Office has now removed that and issued the rare red weather warning for parts of Scotland. Despite the warning being removed for Nottinghamshire, one weather forecaster has warned the county could be hit by thunderstorms this week. The BBC has predicted that storms could hit between 1pm and 4pm on Thursday, October 19.Heavy rain is also forecast from 7pm on Wednesday, October 18 until around 3am on Thursday, October 19. It is then expected to return from 10am on Friday, October 20 until around 7am on Saturday, October 21.
The Met Office forecast for Wednesday states: "Rather cloudy start in places on Wednesday, but bright or sunny spells are likely to develop. However, cloud thickening from the south later with heaving rain arriving into evening. A windy day with risk of coastal gales later. Maximum temperature 15 °C."
Thursday, October 19 is expected to be less windy and drier than Wednesday, the Met Office said. Thursday's forecast says: "Often rather cloudy but also some bright or sunny spells. Scattered showers, some heavy and perhaps thundery are also likely. Lighter winds than Wednesday. Maximum temperature 17 °C."
