After nearly a half century as a sportswriter in Texas, McClain_on_NFL is retiring. He spent some time reflecting on the countless people who were a part of his career.

I’ll still follow the Texans and tweet about them. I’ll still attend Astros games and tweet about them, too. I’ll also be retweeting every day all of the terrific stories by Chronicle writers in every department.

Before I thank all of those who have impacted my career, I’ve got to single out three who gave me opportunities as well as their support, advice and friendship — Dave Campbell, David McHam and Tony Pederson., was a legend, an icon of Texas journalism who founded Texas Football magazine in 1960 and worked for 40 years as the Trib’s sports editor.
