MARTINEZ — An Antioch man was sentenced to 15 years to life for beating a woman to death with a Mickey Mouse coffee mug and dumping her body days later in a remote part of Byron.
Ser Estrada, 48, was convicted in December of murdering 49-year-old Aleli Avila in August 2017. Authorities say Estrada left Avila’s body in his Antioch home for more than 24 hours, then called his cousin, Rodolfo Manalo, confessed to the crime, and asked for help.near a silica mine in Byron. Police identified them as suspects after reviewing surveillance footage that captured them driving up in a van.
Police then searched the Antioch home and found bloody pieces of a ceramic mug and a bloody sports trophy in a garbage can. They found blood stains and spatter in Estrada’s bedroom, as well as evidence that a section of carpet was cut from the floor. Manalo, 63, confessed to his role in the crime and Estrada’s admissions to him, according to testimony. He took a plea deal and a 16-month prison term in 2018, records show.
