If one has to look for joy, then let’s endorse doing it the Serre way: realism tinged with optimism—and vice versa. Her last few collections have featured incredible tailoring worn with face masks, showcasing a near-mystical intuition about where life was all too sadly heading. Yet for all the apocalyptic tremors, there’s a sense of hope and of the future coursing through what she shows too—a call to escape by all means but not without really acknowledging the place we’ve arrived at.
