The Good Place star Manny Jacinto finally opens up a little about his upcoming Star Wars role - and he's making history in the galaxy far, far away!

Manny Jacinto is officially making Star Wars history in The Acolyte, playing the first live-action Asian Jedi. The last few years have seen Star Wars take great strides in terms of on-screen representation, and The Acolyte - an upcoming Disney+ TV show set roughly a century before the prequel trilogy - is another particularly exciting step forward. Showrunner Leslye Headland has clearly been working hard to ensure the Star Wars galaxy becomes a lot more diverse.

The Good Place star Manny Jacinto is one of the new characters to appear in The Acolyte, and his role is shrouded in mystery. The character's name is a mystery even now, but - speaking to Dagobah Dispatch in an interview conducted before the strikes - he has confirmed he is indeed playing a Jedi. That officially makes Jacinto the first ever live-action Asian Jedi to appear in Star Wars, and he's clearly thrilled at the chance to make history in this way.

Akira Kurosawa's movies were particularly important, especially the 1958 movie The Hidden Fortress. Toshiro Mifune - the star of Kurosawa's film - was originally offered the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story introduced viewers to the Guardians of the Whills, another Force-cult centered on the doomed moon Jedha - with Donnie Yen playing Chirrut Îmwe and Jiang Wen as Baze Malbus. Star Wars: The Last Jedi introduced Kelly Marie Tran and Veronica Ngo's Rose and Paige Tico. But now, finally, Star Wars is giving viewers an Asian Jedi at last.
