The live-action Lilo & Stitch film adds two original voice actors to the cast, one reprising their original role and one in a new role.
The live-action Lilo & Stitch is adding two original cast members to its ensemble. The film, which is being helmed by Marcel the Shell with Shoes On director Dean Fleischer-Camp, has previously drawn criticism while in the casting process. When it was announced that Sydney Agudong would be playing Lilo's older sister Nani, many fans online decried the casting of a light-skinned actress as a Native Hawaiian character who was previously depicted with darker skin.

The first Chris Sanders, who co-directed the original 2002 animated film, reprising his role as the iconic voice of Stitch. The second is Tia Carrere, who played Nani in the original film, as a new original character named Mrs. Kekoa.
What Chris Sanders and Tia Carrere Have Done Since Lilo & Stitch Although Sanders left Disney in favor of DreamWorks after making Lilo & Stitch, he returned in recent years to helm their live-action film The Call of the Wild. While working at the rival company, he co-directed a pair of major theatrical outings for them, namely How to Train Your Dragon and The Croods.
Carrere also continued to play Nani in various other Stitch projects including the Lilo & Stitch animated series. She has continued to play both animated and live-action roles since then, including returning to a Hawaiian setting in two episodes of the Hawaii Five-0 reboot. Most recently she appeared in the Jo Koy film Easter Sunday and the Hallmark romance A Big Fat Family Christmas.
The Lilo & Stitch casting backlash has been fierce, so this latest casting news may be part of a make-good attempt on Disney's part. Bringing back Carrere especially will honor her contributions to the original film and the character of Nani. As far as bringing back Sanders as Stitch, there was seemingly no other option considering how iconic the character's voice is, similar to The Lion King's 2019 remake bringing back James Earl Jones as Mufasa.
