A huge factor in The Parkers Arms' status at the top gastropub in the country is its pie offering. The pub, nestled in an a village in an envy-inducing area of Lancashire, straddling the Forest of Bowland and Ribble Valley, has long-been famed for serving fresh pies, using locally-sourced ingredients.
And the latest award in the ever-growing list of accolades for the remote pub, which is run by chef patron Stosie Madi and business partner Kathy Smith, is a gold certificate in the 'Pub Pie Class' category at the British Pie Awards 2023. The winning, gold-standard pie is the curried mutton and offal in a rendered mutton fat pastry. Creating pie fillings using more unusual and rare flavours and ingredients yet fiercely loyal to the surrounding countryside, is a signature move for Stosi and her team.In fact, LancsLive enjoyed a Meanley Estate venison & elderberry pie in pork fat pastry during a recent visit among other dishes on the hearty, wholesome pride of Lancashire menu.
It wasn't just the Parkers Arms flying the flag for our Red Rose county at the awards, with two other businesses also winning awards. Mark's Artisan Bakery and Pie Shop, which is based in Clitheroe and run by baker Mark Solomon, won bronze for their black pudding and smoked bacon pie in the 'hot-eating savoury pie' category.
