The offense took a hit when the team’s leading goal scorer Lawson Crouse was out with an upper-body injury. The left winger is listed as day-to-day and was replaced by Jack McBain on the second line with Nick Bjugstad and Dylan Guenther. Michael Carcone was recalled from the Tucson Roadrunners and was on the fourth line with Zack Kassian.
Other than Strome’s goal three minutes into the game, the first period was quiet with neither team earning a power play opportunity. The Capitals controlled the pace for the first part of the period, but the Coyotes caught up on offense and tied the Capitals with seven shots.Sonny Milano was one of several Capitals players to make use of time and space against the Coyotes. Milano tucked a cross-crease pass from Tom Wilson to add to the Capitals lead at 17:32 in the second period.
“We had a tough time to break out and we’re not really satisfied with our game,” Coyotes head coach André Tourigny said. “But at the same time, give a lot of credit to them. We’re in a situation where it’s tough right now energy-wise and we feel we don’t have the same pop, but we need to find a way. There’s not an excuse.”Unlike the previous game, the third period wasn’t in the Coyotes' favor.
