The Tesla Gigafactory in Austin, shown while under construction in late 2021, celebrated the plant’s opening in April. One of its suppliers, vehicle door maker Simwon NA Corp., was fined recently by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for workplace safety violations.Federal authorities have issued a fine and citations against a Tesla supplier in Kyle after a six-month investigation concluded that the company failed to adequately report safety concerns raised by workers.

Simwon, a subsidiary of Myung Shin Industries Co. Ltd. in South Korea, is a vehicle parts manufacturer that builds doors for electric vehicles made at the Tesla Gigafactory near Austin.Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, assembled several suppliers in Central and South Texas after moving the electric vehicle manufacturer’s headquarters from California last year to the $1 billion, 10 million-square-foot Gigafactory near Austin.

OSHA said its inspectors began investigating Simwon in June after finding “one willful violation for failing to control hazardous energy to prevent sudden machine startups,” the agency said in a statement.
