San Francisco legislators unanimously voted to halt the sale of e-cigarettes in the city, though Juul has already put a plan into action to undo the ban.

San Francisco vaporizer stores like Gone With the Smoke Vapor Lounge will no longer be able to sell e-cigarettes after city supervisors, in a move to curb youth vaping use, voted unanimously Tuesday in favor of a ban.San Francisco-based Juul Labs was dealt a blow Tuesday when its hometown legislators voted unanimously to ban all sales of electronic cigarettes in the city.

Gearing up for Tuesday’s outcome, Juul—which holds three-fourths of the U.S. e-cigarette market, according to Nielsen—preemptively filed a ballot measure last month that would ban the sale vaping products for people under 21, rather than everyone. If the petition receives 9,500 signatures by July 8, San Francisco residents will vote on the measure in November.

The supervisors also voted in favor of an ordinance that prevents e-cigarette companies from selling, making, and distributing products on city property in the future. Juul is grandfathered into its headquarters at city-owned Pier 70, and it’s expanding. The company announced Tuesday it had purchased 123 Mission Street in San Francisco’s Financial District, a much larger building that will help support the company’s continued growth.
