What does Imzadi actually mean?

The word Imzadi is first spoken by half-Betazoid Deanna Troi in the series premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation. After Commander Riker arrives on the USS Enterprise-D as its new First Officer, Troi greets him telepathically, referring to him as Imzadi.
Other instances of the term Imzadi can be found in Star Trek tie-in fiction. Though not officially considered canon, the Star Trek novel titled Imzadi by Peter David delves deeper into Troi and Riker's romance and depicts their initial relationship on Betazed. The second Imzadi novel, Triangle: Imzadi II, also looks into the true meaning of this Betazed term, and has Lt. Commander Worf refer to the recently deceased Lt. Commander Jadzia Dax as his Imzadi.
