I tried the £28 barbecue meat hamper that feeds six and there was one thing that really bugged me
Barbecue season is here and although the weather for it may have gone temporarily AWOL, many supermarkets and butchers are pushing various deals and offers when it comes to meat. One of those is Muscle Food with its Essential BBQ Meats Selection.
For us though, it was all about the meat. - Cumberland sausages, free range steak burgers, chicken drumsticks, chicken steaks, extra lean chicken burgers, jumbo hot dogs and diced chicken breast in a Piri Piri marinade.According to Muscle Food, the hamper feeds up to six, so it works out at around £4.66 per person.
But how does that price compare if you were to do buy items individually from the likes of Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury's?Let's go through each item - and full disclosure, it was all cooked on my trusty George Foreman or in the oven because it hasn't stopped raining.So for me these were pretty standard sausages. Tasty, fairly well seasoned, no complaints. Cooked well on the grill.First thing that struck me was there was only four - in a hamper that's supposed to feed six.
They cooked quite quickly and again had some great lines, but unfortunately the taste left something to be desired. Underseasoned and bland. Mouthfeel was quite processed.The hot dogs I was a fan of. Good size, fit well in a roll, and were fairly tasty. Overall no complaints.
