'We have never in our life experienced anything like this'
The incident happened in the William Street area of the city in the early hours of Sunday morning as the man and his husband made their way home after a night out.
Speaking to Belfast Live, one of the victims - who asked for his identity to be protected - said: "We were up the town, grabbed food, and went to William Street to phone a taxi. It all happened out of the blue. A group of fellas turned the corner around Spaghetti Junction [a local Italian restaurant] and that's when we were attacked."
The alleged homophobic attack victim continued: "Before the attack started they were shouting homophobic slurs, they were saying the word f****t. A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Police in Derry/Londonderry are appealing for information and witnesses following a report of an assault in the city in the early hours of Sunday 2nd July."
