Here's how Pennsylvania's cities faired on a list ranking the best spots for Lunar New Year celebrations.
LISTEN:based on the grades of the U.S.’s 200 biggest cities across four main categories: “Community,” “Celebration,” “Safety,” and “Weather.” Relevant metrics such as “Chinese and Chinese-American Population” and “Lunar New Year Events and Festivals” were also taken into account.
The final list ranked Philadelphia in the number eleven overall spot, and listed it as actually 10th overall when it came to just the “Celebration” category. The only other Pennsylvania city that made it onto the list — Pittsburgh — was ranked, unfortunately, at 130., Lunar New Year is celebrated by East and Southeast Asian cultures “as a time for feasting and to honor household and heavenly deities, as well as ancestors.” Years are typically marked by one of 12 zodiac animals, with 2023 being the Year of the Rabbit.
“The best way to ring in the Lunar New Year is to stay safe and healthy,” says Dongwang Liu, Ph.D. and adjunct assistant professor at the University of Iowa. “Clean the house, make things tidy, and be environment friendly.” The top five best cities for Lunar New Year in the U.S. were Honolulu, Hawaii ; Houston, Texas ; Los Angeles, Calif. ; San Francisco, Calif. ; and New York, N.Y. .If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
