Met Police chief wants greater powers to sack officers
He pointed out that independent legal tribunals can decide the Met has to retain officers even though the force wants to sack them.
Sir Mark said four in five of the original inquiries into officers accused of domestic and sexual violence in the last decade had not resulted in the correct action and should be reassessed.
Sir Mark admitted the number of neighbourhood police officers had fallen by 1,600 and that he intended to "stabilise" that figure to improve safety in the capital. Sir Mark has previously said he was considering banning anyone with convictions, other than the most minor, from the force. He added "complex" police regulations mean some officers under investigation have already been sacked by the Met, but were then reinstated by an independent lawyer.
