The Met Police has 161 officers with criminal convictions in its ranks. Three serving officers have got convictions related to sexual offences.
To make things worse, a damning report recently condemned the force asCommissioner Rowley, who began the job in September, has admitted there are hundreds of corrupt officers on the force, and has assigned 90 officers from serious crimes units to the Directorate for Professional Standards in an effort to root them out.
‘Over the last three months we have had, on average, 90 additional officers and staff from these areas supporting DPS.’ Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy said the officers’ investigative expertise would be useful in rooting out wrongdoing and identifying corrupt police. More than 1,000 records where officers and staff were accused of domestic violence or sexual offences in the past 10 years have now been checked to make sure the right decision was taken.
