The men, who held different roles, have done the country proud
Men from Nottinghamshire and over the Derbyshire border in Long Eaton have been praised for the part they played in the Queen's funeral on Monday, September 19. Friends and family of Luke Simpson from Selston, Dean Jones from Long Eaton, Aaron - whose surname is unknown but is from Ashfield - and Luke Taylor, who is originally from Mapperley, shared photos and stories of the men online.
Local residents were proud to spot the men in the funeral proceedings and shared their praise for the men had handled the occasion. Selston Football Club said they were delighted to see Mr Simpson and proclaimed that the young man had 'done his country, village, family and friends proud'.The young man was part of the team responsible for carrying the coffin from Westminister Hall to a gun carriage before taking it to its spot in Westminister Abbey.
Lee Anderson, who is the Conservative MP for Ashfield, also praised Mr Simpson as well as another man, referred to only as Aaron, who was involved in the funeral. In a statement on Facebook, Mr Anderson wrote: "Ashfield Lads. Luke and Aaron doing their duty and making their families and the whole of Ashfield feel incredibly proud. Serving Queen and country."
A post appeared on the Facebook Group: Spotted: Long Eaton which identified Mr Jones as one of the pallbearers. It read: "We spotted one of our own Long Eaton boys, Dean Jones, lead Her Majesty's coffin pallbearers with complete calmness and total professionalism. Long Eaton salutes you Sir."
