Staffing issues have also been blamed for thousands of bins being missed.
Nottingham's electric bin lorries have been affected by charging issues after 11,000 collections in the city were missed in just three months. Several of the lorries were unavailable at some points in May due to the charging problems, which Nottingham City Council says have now been resolved.
It is understood a system is now in place where at least two people will check on a lorry's charging status after the driver has plugged it in for the night. One of the worst affected areas of Nottingham for uncollected bins last year was Clifton East, where 1,735 collections were missed. The area was also hit again this year, with councillors there posting regularly throughout May that hundreds of bins were sometimes being missed within the space of one day.
The first two lorries were even the subject of a public naming competition, eventually being dubbed 'Trash Gordon' and 'Binderella'. The electric fleet has since grown to 13, with the council still operating a fleet of diesel bin lorries alongside them.
