Mostly found in dogs and cats, an invisible parasite can live in either animal’s digestive systems or muscles.
, researchers are concerned about a tiny worm called Toxocara, which is a parasite that, yes, mostly affects dogs and cats, but can also spread to humans.
Nevertheless, the researchers say the Toxocara isn’t a cause for huge concern being that it’s not super easy for humans to be infected with the parasite. Humans would literally have to eat infected dirt. Hence, children are at increased risk. In the U.S., about 70 people — mostly children — go blind as a result of toxocariasis, a Toxocara-caused disease, a year. Though, it must be noted the disease isn’t easily noticed by physicians.
