Mark Rylance making West End return, and here's how you can get tickets
is scheduled for a limited run at the historic venue. It will begin on Thursday, June 29 and continue through autumn until Saturday, October 7.
In the play, Rylance portrays the real Dr Ignaz Semmelweis, who dedicated his life to saving the thousands of mothers who were dying during childbirth in Europe in the 19th century. One of Dr Semmelweis's biggest barriers to a breakthrough is that he is haunted by the expectant mothers he hasn't been able to save during his research.
This production, written by Rylance with Royal National Theatre veteran Stephen Brown, was initially delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic before finally opening last year at Bristol's Old Vic.
